Il Palazzetto, Rome

A luxe boutique hotel with a location and view to die for certainly puts the romance in Rome.

A luxe boutique hotel with a location and view to die for certainly puts the romance in Rome.
A tiny hotel overlooking the Spanish Steps - arguably the most romantic view in Rome - Il Palazzetto has only four rooms, but each is spacious and airy.
Built in the 1500s as a Roman residence for a noble family - and later used as a set for Bertolucci's film Besieged - it was reincarnated in 2002 as a hotel, rooftop bar and wine academy. The vibe is residential luxe, with marble bathrooms, king-size beds and a library devoted to eno-gastronomic reads. A real standout is the minibar, which is stocked with an excellent selection of local wine, influenced no doubt by the close proximity of the International Wine Academy of Roma on the ground floor. The academy offers Italo-centric wine courses and tastings.
Double rooms start at $287. Il Palazzetto, Vicolo del Bottino, 8, 00187 Rome, +39 06 699 1065
