If there's one restaurant that reflects the elegance of Turin, it's Del Cambio. Opened in 1757, it has served the likes of Casanova, Puccini, Mozart and Nietzsche, survived political upheaval, weathered industrial strife and, more recently, a year of renovation. The heritage interiors have been transformed with white marble and French parquetry, tables and chairs by Italian artist Martino Gamper and specially commissioned plates by Israeli-born artist Izhar Patkin. In the kitchen is Matteo Baronetto, born in nearby Giaveno and fresh from the two Michelin-star Restaurant Cracco in Milan. Del Cambio's wine cellar is even older than the restaurant, with 15,000 bottles, 2000 labels and some of the best Barolos of the region. Oh, and a chic new cocktail bar, Bar Cavour, has opened on the first floor.
