Silversea on expedition

Luxury cruise line Silversea is adding a third expedition ship to its fleet.

Luxury cruise line Silversea announced on 10 September it will add a third expedition ship to its fleet, with an ambitious program of voyages starting in March to remote destinations including the Kimberley, the Russian Far East, Micronesia, Polynesia and the Sub-Antarctic islands.

The 128-passenger Silver Discoverer will carry 12 Zodiacs, a glass-bottom boat and an expedition team of 11, including divemasters as well as naturalists. Silversea launched its first expedition vessel in 2008, focusing on Antarctica and the Arctic; on 28 September its second expedition ship, Silver Galapagos, launches year-round seven-day sailings in the Galapagos Islands.

In Sydney, Silversea’s president of Europe, Middle East, Africa and  Asia Pacific, Steve Odell, said the line expected half the passengers on Silver Discoverer, which brings the total fleet to eight, will be Australian. silversea.com
