Perth’s slick offering

Meet the west’s newest bed for the night (or longer).

Function and value in a hotel room? These can be rare accommodation commodities out west. The resources boom continues to place a massive demand on Perth’s CBD hotels – midweek, in particular – but following the recent opening of the 236-room Fraser Suites, respite for weary business and leisure travellers is at hand.

Like its Kent Street address in Sydney, Fraser Suites’ new $140 million Perth property might be apartment accommodation by definition, but the feel and fit-out is very much hotel luxe. In addition to the sleek vibe of the studio, and one- and two-bedroom apartments themselves, amenities such as free WiFi and a 24-hour gym will please frequent flyers. Cricket fanatics – particularly those already planning ahead to December’s Ashes test at the WACA – might be interested to know the hotel is within walking distance of the hallowed ground (some balconies even offer glimpses of the action).

Eat-in options are currently limited to in-room kitchen facilities and the modern Australian Dining Room restaurant, but East Perth dining powerhouses Restaurant Amusé and Co-op Dining are both nearby. The heart of the city is also only a short walk, taxi or bus ride away, making this an excellent base from which to familiarise yourself with Perth’s revitalised food and drink scene. Rooms from $245 until 30 August. Fraser Suites, 10 Adelaide Tce, East Perth, WA, (08) 9261 0000.
