Of all the cruise lines jostling for the limelight, Crystal Cruises might just be shining brighter than most at the moment. Content for years with two mid-sized ocean ships – Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity – the Los Angeles-based company ventured into small-ship yachting in 2015 and river cruising last year, and adds private jet travel to its roster next year.

Its first river ship, Crystal Mozart, will be joined by two new sister ships on European rivers this year and a further two in 2018, all named for classical composers. Meanwhile, the 62-passenger yacht Crystal Esprit is joined by a 100-passenger sister ship in 2019: Crystal Endeavor will concentrate on polar cruising in considerable style, with a mini-submarine and helicopter among the on-board toys.
