Toby Wilson is hosting taco dégustations in Sydney

Inspired by a month of eating in Mexico, a seasoned Sydney taco-slinger is bringing the good times home.

After taking a sabbatical of sorts in Mexico at the end of last year, Toby Wilson, of Bad Hombres and the late Ghostboy Cantina, is ready to share his culinary experiences with Sydney. Over two weekends in March, Wilson will turn Mecca's Alexandria HQ into a taqueria, offering an eight-course menu of highlights from the 100-plus tacos he ate while travelling in Guadalajara, Mexico City and Oaxaca.

Expect the likes of tacos de barbacoa (with lamb slow-roasted under banana leaves), quesadillas with zucchini flowers and, for a taste of coastal Mexico, ceviche tostadas. For those who want the full experience, drink matches include Mexican beer, mezcal and tequila from distilleries Wilson visited, as well as cocktails with a Mexican twist.

Switched-on readers will note that Wilson isn't the only Sydneysider doing things with tortillas in March. Neil Perry opens his upscale Bar Patrón by Rockpool on 8 March. Bring on the taco takedown.

Las Taquerias de Mexico by Toby Wilson, 6pm and 8pm, 16-17 March, 23-24 March, Mecca, 26 Bourke Rd, Alexandria, NSW; $60 plus booking fee for eight courses via eventbrite.com.
