Our restaurant critics’ picks of the latest and best eats around the country right now: Pink Moon Saloon, Adelaide.

It’s been two years in the making, but the transformation of an inner-city service laneway into the Pink Moon Saloon by the Clever Little Tailor crew is complete. One of a pair of tiny A-frame cabins linked by a courtyard houses a cosy bar with five brews on tap, a smart local and international wine list, top-shelf spirits and a clutch of cocktails, while the restaurant occupies the second cabin. Chef Matthew Standen doesn’t have much space, but turns out delicious hot pastrami sandwiches, ploughman’s platters and a hot-smoked salmon salad. A snack of fried pork neck with pickle dip makes a fine companion to a handle of Grifter Big Sur IPA from the keg, but the musk of slow-cooked meats from the wood oven leads you inevitably to The Daily Chop selection of smoked beasts, birds and vegetables among the specials. We like.
