Sydney’s best cheap eats

Looking for a list of Sydney's best cheap eats? Here are some of our favourites.

Cipro, Sydney

For top-value Thai, head to Spice I Am (90 Wentworth Ave, Surry Hills, 02 9280 0928) or Shortgrain (85 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills, 02 9280 2888), the daytime canteen offshoot behind Longrain.

The Malaysian rotis at Mamak (15 Goulburn St, Sydney, 02 9211 1668) have been known to work up a hefty queue, as have the ramen offerings at Ryo’s (125 Falcon St, Crows Nest, 02 9955 0255).

There’s no beating An (27 Greenfield Pde, Bankstown, 02 9796 7826) when it comes to pho, or Al Aseel (we like the Newtown branch, 189 Missenden Rd, Newtown, 02 9550 3194) for top-notch Lebanese, though El Jannah (4-6 South St, Granville, 02 9637 0977) is your go-to for charcoal chicken.

If you prefer your birds fried don’t miss Mary’s (6 Mary St, Newtown). For uncomplicated food of the eat-and-run variety, try Wilbur’s Place (36 Llankelly Pl, Potts Point, 02 9332 2999).

At Cipro, the pizza al taglio and desserts make for a winning package.
