REVIEW
Consistent – no word sums up better the appeal of Beccofino’s blend of easy elegance, attention to detail and ability to deliver pizze, primi and secondi as good as the night, month or year before. Cheeky young waiters are attentive, alert to co-owner Paolo Biscaro’s commands. He runs the floor most nights and his rapid-fire Italian ricocheting across the dining room adds to a convivial soundtrack of happy families tackling bowls of rich duck ragù and couples arguing coyly over the last slice of sweet pork and scamorza-topped pizza. Crisp pieces of tender baby calamari are the entrée atop almost every table – but there are other gems, like sweet, seared scallops with salmoriglio and mortadella. An easy-to-manage drinks list is suitably Italian-leaning and there’s also lots to enjoy with your crema fritti, say, or a mascarpone-rich tiramisù. A no-bookings policy ensures a definite sense of achievement whenever diners nab a table at this revered local.
