Sydney’s favourite bowerbird unveils her new store.

After years of writing and styling for numerous magazines, interiors expert Sibella Court has gone on to publish her own books, overseen scores of high-profile collaborations and is even hosting her own television show. Being busy suits her.

Court’s shop, The Society Inc, has by no means fallen by the wayside. It has simply swapped its modest Paddington shopfront for a 280-square-metre warehouse in St Peters, which celebrates all the people who make her “look really good”, and showcases the many souvenirs she has collected on her travels.

It’s split into two parts: “Sixty-five per cent is public,” says Court, “and the other part houses our design studio, sample rooms and half of my library.”

The Paddington terrace, meanwhile, has been converted into a one-bedroom hotel, with the other half of Court’s library and plenty of Society Inc charm. Though the warehouse officially opened in December, Court says the space is only just starting to show its true magic now. “The old shop was very small, so we had to do small things, but now we’re going bigger,” she says.
